3000m Steeplechase Final - Atlanta 1996. Great to see Alessandro Lambruschini winning a medal at his third attempt, having previously finished 4th at Seoul 1988 and at Barcelona in 1992. A lesson in perseverance! Commentators - Stuart Storey, David Coleman and Brendan Foster.

Rocket man!
At the time I didn't realise how good she truly was. Thank goodness I have the chance to see how classy an athlete she was.

Poor David Bedford. He always ran away from fields outside major championships. Maybe in the championships he was up against rivals with extra ingredients.
Spare a thought for Fernando Mamede of Portugal, a hugely talented athlete, who broke the 10,000m WR that year with 27m13.81 - but repeatedly couldn't cope with the pressure on him of national expectation.
Mamede ran 27:13.81 and broke the 10,000m WR a year later in 1984. Still, he ran 27:25 in 1983 behind Lopes but unfortunately never ran to his potential in major championship finals. However, not many athletes have represented their country at 4x400m Relay up to 10,000m at the Olympics!
In the early years ITV would still cover the World and European Championships jointly with the BBC until 1991
What a wonderful moment.

The rest of the girls were just running their own race, it didn't matter what Sonia was doing because she was going to win the race anyway. It's about improving your own best, that's what matters.
Kenyans are legends
Mary Decker vs Zola Budd rematch.
No Budd in this one.
COME ON SONIA - LEGEND...
Did they just slide the dope results under the carpet?
Notice how the lapped runners moved out to let the leaders pass - there's not so much of that these days, unfortunately. Great run, Steve, what an athlete!
sadly Peter Matthews passed away a few months back - he was devoted to athletics and always helpful to others
Obvious foul.
hicham lgaroug is a god
Thank you very much for uploading this final race ENTIRELY! Take care, God bless, stay healthy and safe, and have a wonderful and inspiring summer 2024! Greetings from the Philippines.
Well executed Bronze from Yvonne Murray after Decking-Decker gave them all a free ride. Also, the amount of dope in Gold and Silver would make Ma’s Army blush.
Yes, in reality it was a Gold medal performance from Yvonne! Samolenko was banned for PEDs in 1993!
@@tommytempo1Great video! You mentioned that the Russian was dq'd subsequently, whatever happened to the 2nd place finisher as well, because you mentioned that 3rd is the apparent champion.
@@mauricepointer9555 Have you seen the Women's 1500m from Seoul 1988?
Hahahaha…. “The Kiwis had blown it”. Never satisfied Keith.
The Rolls Royce of runners. Shame about the injuries in Olympic years.
It's remarkable, but also sad, that after all these years, Mark Rowland is still , by a comfortable margin, the fastest ever Briton over the barriers.
I don't know what the judges were thinking, to be honest. You can clearly see Kosgei moving across the lane and obstructing Kipketer.
Tommy very impressive just watching this race my dad chris kelong we lost him 2000 through road accident we miss him dearly ❤
I am very sorry to hear that Mike. Hopefully, the race footage will provide some great memories of your Dad.
A great finish by Moorcroft. I'm surpised John Walker did not appear in this race.
I am sure that JW was injured at this time.
@@tommytempo1 I remember him getting injured in 1977. That moment really marked the end of his reign as the world's premier 1500m runner. ua-cam.com/video/9eKSUCyVjJA/v-deo.html
I'll miss my gooness man.
My gooness.
Bailey’s running style is like an art, watching the slo-mo he looks like a Greek God galloping …

Respect to Cruz. Gold then Silver. Not sure many 800m runners have two Olympic medals...
Eight male athletes have two 800m medals to date.
@@tommytempo1 how many of these have an 800m gold out of curiosity ? This is not a rhetorical question. I actually don't know 😂 Obviously Rudisha has 2 Golds, Cruz a Gold and a Silver, I don't know about the others.
So Snell, Whitfield, Kipketer, Cruz, Rudisha. There seems to actually be quite a few 😮
After a season of world-record record swapping between the Brits, would have predicted this British record would last 38 years! This was the end of an era. Love that the runners were wearing club vests on the world stage :-)

Said Aouita was an Atlas Lion! Also, 88 it appears was the start of the Kenyans taking medals all over the track!
Check out Mexico 1968 and Munich 1972.
Said Aouita was the door opener and corner stone sets for Africans to set their feet on the track, just mesmerizing and it was eventually, amazing to watch his unique running 🏃♂️way back then. He was the runner who bring smart tactics to win and beat the world records, undoubtedly, and runs faster than his shadow 😊
I would have said that Abebe Bikila and Kip Keino were the two athletes that were the door opener for Africa in the 1960's.
@@tommytempo1agreed
i nevet fancied Decker but she was tough. Front running both races, but still pulling away from the Rooskie in the 3000 then running down the other on the 1500 was impressive.
Que fácil se vé correr a Brahim Boutayeb, parece que va trotando y no a ritmo de record mundial. Ganó fácilmente con record olímpico!! Y muy inteligente la carrera realizada por Salvatore Antivo que obtuvo el segundo lugar.
Shirvington you idiot!! 🙄🙄😖 It’s not this hard….

A great man Eamon coughlan . Chairman of the boards in the states.
The Rolls Royce of runners.
One of the British Big Three.
Liquori outkicked Yifter over 5000m at Zurich, a week or so prior to this race.
The fantastic documentary The Fall pretty much sums up this sad day. Wat stood out for me was the fact that Zola didnt even want to be there and she certainly didnt want to be on the podium with all the booing going on.
Esse era o Carlos Lopes fera
Morrissey in 3rd..
Walker ran a 3:50 Mile eight years later in 1984!
I often wonder what he would have achieved had he not gone over that church railing in late 81.
Probably the greatest middle distance runner of all time. Could sprint 11.7 for 100 meters after running 1400 .metres at world class pace? superhuman & unheard of
